Sunday April 27, 2003. Start 10:35 AM. Went up Mud Trail Hill. 11:23 Came to Over The Crest Valley. Went down left side of valley. At 11:52 hit Marie Creek: 11:58 Burton Creek (picture of sign). Picture of Burton Creek footbridge. At the right end of the bridge you can see the hiking stick I've used for two years now. 12:05 Meadow just past Burton Creek. I think I've read the name of it in the news paper, but I forget. I really like this meadow. I feel good there. I plan to climb the rock wall on the north side of the meadow. Entering the meadow it began to rain. Leaving 5 minutes later sunshine and blue sky. 12:53 Skitwish Creek. Foot bridge is treacherous. Fallen log is better. 1:12 Bear paw print (picture) in muddy trail. 1:33 Bridge Across Nothing. Back track a few yards to find windfall to crosss creek. Heavy rain. 1:52 Skitwish trail, but I pass by to reach Trails End first. 2:25 Trails End. There is new trail work beyond Trails End, including windfall cuts. I walked ten minutes beyond the end to where the trail disappeared in the creek. I think it picks up on the other side, but decided to turn around for the day to explore Skitwish trail. Turn around 2:35. Raining. 3:04: Just finished lunch sitting on the trail in bright sunlight. The creek is a river of flashing diamond-light many yards below my feet. 3:24 Skitwish Trail. 3:42 Trail disappears in muddy stream bed. Turn around. More to explore next time. 3:58 back on Marie Creek Trail. 6:40 Made it back to car. Wonderful trip. Satisfied. About a 45 minutes later, after shopping, pulse is 101.
