Great blue heron clears the road as I arrive at Marie Creek. 12:29 PM Late start. Heading to meadow to climb rocks. 12:55 Heavy rain on Mud trail hill. 1:05 Over the crest valley. Stop to listen to a cacaphony of birds. Turkey gobbler, many noisey ravens with various racous voices. High pitched song birds. Woodpecker on drums. All at once in a natural orchestra. Sat on a log listening until 1:18. Marie Creek 1:40. 1:46 Burton Creek. Meadow 1:58. Climbed rock slide a little. It is very slow going because each step must be tested to see if it will slip. Observed and photoed snail. Snail was very sensitive to movement within a few feet of it. Lunch up on the rocks, done at 2:26. Leave meadow at 3:00. 3:25 halfway up valley, two eagles float together on an updraft. Trailhead at about 4:15.
