Was only out for an hour and a half today. Sun hot. Saw a rabbit playing on the road just above the parking lot, but too far away to photo. Walked up the Marie Creek Road from the parking lot to the road that leads to the Southwest end of the trail. But instead of going to the trail, I followed an abandoned road directly across from the gated trail road and went East down into Searchlight Creek valley.

Many daisies (photo) (photo) including some with odd petals (photo) (photo). Some purple flowers (photo) (photo) (Please email if you can tell me the names of any flowers. Most of them I don't know. Everlasting (photo) (photo). One tiny strawberry (photo), which I ate. Here is the skull (photo) of a large animal. I shot a picture of the jaw, too, but it didn't turn out. The teeth were big.

There were some man-made earth banks down near the creek, maybe roads, maybe part of an old mining operation. An old culvert, rusted lying on the ground. Nearby someone had built a fire ring with rocks in recent years. The windfalls and brush became thick (photo). I could have pushed on a bit more, but it was hot, and something in the air was making my nose run and sneeze. Here's a couple of yellow flowers (photo) (photo). I don't know what they are. Here's a shot of the nice part of the trail on the abandoned road:

Here's a purple flower on a bush:

And a closer shot (photo)

An anthill with no apparent ants. And a red clover
with spitbug spit.

Highlights of the hike were the odd daisies and the strawberry.

Here's the whole set of 18 photos.
