Truth Triumphs (Partially) Over the Dollarocracy

Praise and gratitude to Patrick Leahy and those who voted to repeal an exemption that allowed chicken farmers to label their product organic even if the chickens never ate organic feed.

As Sen. Leahy (D-Vt) said, “If a few beef, poultry, pork and dairy producers are able to label their products 'organic' without using organic feed, which is one of the primary inputs, then what exactly is organic about their products?”

Unfortunately, according to a story by Kurtis Alexander in the Santa Cruz Sentinel, the House version of the bill does not include the repeal measure.
And the bill, "also includes a measure directing the U.S. Department of Agriculture to consider labeling "wild" fish organic without certification requirements. Bob
Scowcroft (executive director of Santa Cruz-based Organic Farming Research Foundation) "said this, like the chicken feed measure, compromises organic food values."

Observations:

1. Question every label in every context.
2. Producers often put more emphasis on the package than on the content. Beware of packaging.
3. Truth is not always on the surface. Look deeper, then deeper still.
4. Corporatists value the Dollar over the Truth and are quite willing to codify their dishonesty in the law.

Quote:

"The name that can be named
Is not the constant name.
The nameless was the beginning of heaven and earth;
The named was the mother of the myriad creatures.
Hence always rid yourself of desires in order to observe its secrets;
But always allow yourself to have desires in order to observe its manifestations."

"Tao Te Ching" - Lao Tse translated by D. C. Lau
